Ecological ways to travel to Helsinki
We at Ice Hot want to create an ecologically sustainable platform for Nordic dance. In order to minimize the carbon footprint of the event, we encourage you to travel to Helsinki as ecologically as possible.
Located up in the north and surrounded by the Baltic Sea, Helsinki might seem like a tricky destination to reach without flying. There are, however, many ways to enter Helsinki by sea and land.
From Tallinn, Estonia
You can access Helsinki from Tallinn in just two hours by ferry. Companies like Tallink-Silja Line and Eckerö Line have regular traffic between the cities with multiple daily departures.
From Stockholm, Sweden
Tallink-Silja Line and Viking Line ships bring you directly from Stockholm to Helsinki in less than 20 hours – or if you prefer a shorter sea trip – to Turku. There is a two hour train connection from Turku harbour to Helsinki. Viking Grace uses liquified natural gas as fuel and therefore is the most ecological passenger ferry on the Turku – Stockholm route.
From Travemünde, Germany
A cargo ferry by Finnlines operates on a daily schedule between Travemünde and Helsinki. The sea trip takes approximately 29 hours.
From St. Petersburg, Russia
Due to the Covid-19, there is no rail traffic between Helsinki and St. Petersburg at the moment. Please see the current situation at: https://www.vr.fi/en/trains-to-russia

Ecological Travel Routes to Helsinki (HIAP)
Please consider calculating and offsetting the carbon emissions of your trip!
We recommend to use the following carbon offset tools when planning more sustainable travel:
Ecological stay
When in Helsinki, we recommend using public transport (HSL) or exploring the streets on foot – most destinations are within walking distance. The public transport in the Helsinki metropolitan area uses 100% renewable energy.
Hotels in Helsinki
We have selected hotels with a good location for you to make your stay in Helsinki as comfortable as possible and that are easy to access from the Cable Factory. All Ice Hot venues are easily accessible with public transport or even on foot from these locations. Please consider sharing a room with your colleague, if possible, as it is more ecological.
For these hotels we have a special deal for registered guests (you will receive a code when you have registered. The registration opens in mid October):
Holiday Inn Helsinki West (LEED certificate)
Radisson Blu Seaside Hotel (Eco-label)
Other hotels with a great location:
Clarion Hotel Helsinki (WeCare sustainability programme)
Radisson Blu Royal Hotel (Eco-label)
Hotel Helka (Green Key certificate)
